CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding Delivers 120,000-TLC Floating Dry Dock “Lucayan”

On February 6, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Beihai Shipbuilding delivered the 120,000 TLC floating dock “Lucayan”, marking a new milestone in the company’s technological and construction capabilities for ultra-large floating docks.

It is understood that Beihai Shipbuilding has been deeply engaged in the construction of large floating docks for many years, accumulating profound technical expertise and extensive project experience. The delivery of the “Lucayan” marks another premium project for the company, following the 93,500-ton lifting capacity vessel “East End.”

The floating drydock measures 413.96 meters in total length and 85.11 meters in total width, with a design lifting capacity of 120,000 tons. It is classified by Lloyd’s Register. Equipped with an advanced automated dock control system, it enables precise automated floating and sinking operations. Capable of precisely meeting the dock repair and conversion needs of today’s largest ICON-class luxury cruise ships, it will inject strong momentum into the global luxury cruise ship maintenance market.

According to previous reports, Beihai Shipbuilding signed contracts in 2023 with Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean Cruises for the construction of a 93,500 TLC floating dry dock and a 120,000 TLC floating dry dock. The two new floating docks are designed to expand the dry dock capacity at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas. Their lifting capabilities meet the requirements for existing and planned cruise ships, as well as most ship repair work in global trade.
