Recently, Genesis Global Tanker (Hong Kong) Limited (GGT) signed a contract with State-owned Haidong Shipyard for the construction of 1+1 13,800 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tankers. The vessels are scheduled for delivery in mid-2027.

The 13,800 DWT chemical tanker is one of the core vessel types in GGT’s strategic fleet. The company currently manages four 13,800 DWT oil/chemical tankers, and its latest shipbuilding project will further enhance its service capabilities and competitive edge in the APME (Asia Pacific Middle East) chemical shipping market.
According to GGT, the new vessel measures approximately 132 meters in length, 21.5 meters in beam, and has a design draft of 11.5 meters. It is designed to accommodate berthing conditions at major and secondary ports across Asia, ensuring flexibility and cost-effectiveness in route planning.
The vessel features 14 independent liquid cargo tanks (including slop tanks) lined with duplex stainless steel 2205. Each tank is equipped with a dedicated hydraulic deep well pump and SUS 316L stainless steel piping, enabling the simultaneous safe loading and unloading of 14 different chemicals. This significantly enhances port operational efficiency and cargo adaptability.
At the same time, the cargo adaptability of the new vessel has been further enhanced, with a maximum cargo capacity ratio of 1.025 tons/cubic meter at full load, a design pressure of 0.025 MPa, and a maximum cargo temperature tolerance of 80°C. It can carry most bulk chemicals under the IBC Code, meeting the diverse needs of high-end customers. Equipped with a NOx Tier III compliant main engine and SCR exhaust gas treatment system, and with an optimized hull design for optimal fuel efficiency, it comprehensively surpasses current environmental regulations.
At present, GGT is steadily advancing its development plan of adding 10 vessels annually, with the goal of building a medium-to-large fleet of 30 chemical tankers within three years. This newbuilding project constitutes a pivotal step in GGT’s fleet expansion strategy: the vessel specifications will further optimize and upgrade the fleet structure, enhance cargo handling capacity and adaptability. The launch of owned vessel orders has laid a vital and solid foundation for GGT’s future development.
Haidong State-owned Shipyard, the contractor for GGT’s new vessel orders, is a state-owned shipbuilding enterprise first founded in 1958. Currently situated in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, it covers a land area of 280 mu (approx. 186,667 square meters), with a coastline of over 700 meters. The shipyard is equipped with 6 large slipways (the largest being 50,000 DWT) and supporting block slipways; 12 large cranes (the maximum capacity reaching 300 tons); a 10,000 DWT outfitting terminal; a 5,000-square-meter PSPC spraying workshop; a 320-ton self-propelled flatbed trailer; as well as a complete set of hull plate processing and plasma cutting equipment, among other facilities.
