CMB.TECH Sells 8 Aging Vessels to Focus on Alternative Fuel Fleet, Gains $269.2M

Belgian shipowner CMB.TECH announced that it has reached agreements to sell eight of its older vessels, generating approximately $269.2 million in capital gains. This move is a key component of CMB.TECH’s fleet renewal strategy, as the company continues to phase out aging vessels while restructuring its fleet around new and alternative fuel vessels.

Specifically, this transaction involves the sale of six Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) from its Euronav platform: the 306,005 DWT “Daishan” built in 2007, the 302,550 DWT “Hirado” built in 2011, the 302,965 DWT “Hojo” built in 2013, and the 299,999 DWT “Dia”, 299,421 DWT “Antigone”, and 299,999 DWT “Aegean”, all built between 2015 and 2016.

CMB.TECH stated that based on the comparison between the net sales price and book value, the aforementioned six VLCCs are expected to be delivered to new owners in the first quarter of 2026. This sale is projected to generate approximately $261.1 million in capital gains.

According to further disclosures, CMB.TECH, through its subsidiary Bocimar, has sold two Capesize bulk carriers: the 179,790 DWT “Magnum,” built in 2009, and the 169,390 DWT “Belgravia”. Based on CMB.TECH’s net selling price and book value, this sale is expected to generate a capital gain of approximately US$8.1 million in the first quarter of 2026. Both bulk carriers were delivered to their new owners in January 2026.

CMB.TECH stated that the proceeds from the sale of the vessels will be used to repay existing debt, while 50% of the profits generated from the sale are planned to be distributed to shareholders.

According to its official website, CMB.TECH is one of the largest listed, diversified and future-proof maritime groups in the world with a fleet of about 250 vessels: dry bulk vessels, crude oil tankers, chemical tankers, container vessels, offshore energy vessels and port vessels. CMB.TECH also offers hydrogen and ammonia fuel to customers, through own production or third-party producers.
