DNV Awards Two AiPs to CIMC Raffles for Generic FPSO and BT-400 PAU Jack-Up Designs

On August 24, during the ONS 2026 (Offshore Northern Seas) exhibition, DNV awarded two Approvals in Principle (AiP) to Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited for their “Generic FPSO” (Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading unit) and “BT-400 PAU” (jack-up platform for well plugging, abandonment, and decommissioning) designs.

Among them, the “Generic FPSO” is a standardized FPSO design developed by CIMC Raffles; it features comprehensive capabilities for oil and gas production and processing as well as large-scale crude oil storage, making it adaptable to the diverse development requirements of offshore oil and gas fields.

The BT-400 PAU platform is a high-end jack-up service platform custom-developed for the European company OIM. Designed primarily for offshore operations such as well plugging, cementing, and platform decommissioning, it is intended for service in the Norwegian North Sea and relevant U.S. waters, capable of meeting the requirements of offshore facility decommissioning projects under harsh sea conditions.

Torgeir Sterri, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for Offshore at DNV, stated: “The awarding of these two AiP certificates to CIMC Raffles marks a significant milestone in the development of their equipment solutions. These technical solutions not only provide a solid foundation for the construction of future projects but also meet the evolving operational requirements of the existing fleet of offshore facilities.”

Over the years, CIMC Raffles and DNV have engaged in deep collaboration across multiple dimensions, including equipment R&D, rule verification, and project certification; the receipt of this AiP marks another significant milestone in their joint efforts within the field of offshore equipment technology development.

CIMC Raffles stated that, moving forward, both parties will continue to leverage their respective strengths to jointly tackle key technical challenges in the offshore equipment sector.
