Hengli Heavy Industries Delivers First Domestically Produced LPG Dual-Fuel Engine

Chinese shipbuilder and engine manufacturer Hengli Heavy Industries announced that on October 28, the company successfully delivered its first domestically produced liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel engine. This marks a significant breakthrough for Hengli Heavy Industries in achieving independent production capabilities in the field of green marine power, as it has fully acquired the ability to manufacture green fuel engines.

The first dual-fuel engine 6G60ME-C10.5-LGIP-HPSCR, has a maximum power output of 23,000 horsepower. Capable of running on either LPG or diesel fuel, this engine significantly reduces vessel operating costs while meeting the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) most stringent Tier III emission standards. It has earned unanimous recognition from shipowners and classification societies.

In September last year, the first independently manufactured engine by Hengli Heavy Industries was successfully delivered, marking the company’s breakthrough from “zero to one” in engine production. This achievement has broken the bottleneck of “ships waiting for engines and engines waiting for shafts” in the shipbuilding industry, helping Hengli Heavy Industries become the world’s largest and most fully equipped shipbuilding base.

Starting with a leading edge, Hengli’s first engine became one of the first advanced products in the industry to meet the latest environmental standards.

This year, Hengli Heavy Industries’ newly built engine assembly workshop went into operation, continuously advancing towards high-end and green engines. This workshop is one of the world’s most powerful high-end marine engine assembly workshops in terms of production equipment capabilities, and Hengli Heavy Industries’ first LPG dual-fuel engine was unveiled here. Currently, the methane dual-fuel 8G95 engine, also produced in this workshop, is about to be delivered, filling a gap in the domestic market in this field.

It is reported that Hengli Heavy Industries’ engines have quickly gained full market recognition, with orders already booked through 2029. Upon reaching full production capacity, Hengli Heavy Industries will be capable of manufacturing 180 engines annually, establishing itself as China’s largest single-site marine engine manufacturer. The company will cover engines up to G95 and achieve comprehensive coverage of four types of low-carbon and zero-carbon dual-fuel engines: LNG, LPG, methanol and ammonia.
