On October 11, China’s major Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding completed its lauching operations simultaneously at Dock No. 2 in its new facility and Dock No. 2 in its western facility. Hudong-Zhonghua achieved the first breakthrough of launching three LNG carriers on the same day, setting a new production record in the field of LNG vessel construction by completing three major production nodes on the same day.
The three LNG carriers launched on the same day this time are respectively Vessel H1895A (the 2nd vessel of the Petronas project), Vessel H1888A (the 3rd vessel of CNOOC Phase II project), and Vessel H1885A (the 6th vessel of CNOOC project).
Petronas Project Vessel No. 2 H1895A Launched
Leaders and guests including Xie Yihong, Director of the Energy Vessel Division of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (China) Co., Ltd., Kawahara Koji, On-site Manager of the Shipowner’s Supervision Team, Zhang Qinlei, Manager of the New Shipbuilding Department of DNV Shanghai Region, and Huang Huabing, Deputy Chief Shipbuilder of Hudong-Zhonghua LNG, attended the launching ceremony of Vessel H1895A (the 2nd vessel of the Petronas project).
CNOOC Phase II Project Vessel No. 3 H1888A Launched
Leaders and guests including Cao Huanan, China Region LNG Technical Director of Nippon Yusen Kaisha (China) Co., Ltd., Fukunaga Keita, Leader of the Shipowner’s On-site Supervision Team, Zhang Qinlei, Manager of the New Shipbuilding Department of DNV Shanghai Region, Chen Zhifei, On-site Manager of China Classification Society (CCS), and Zhang Shaoying, Deputy Chief Shipbuilder of Hudong-Zhonghua LNG, attended the launching ceremony of Ship H1888A (the 3rd vessel of CNOOC Phase II Project).
CNOOC Project Vessel No. 6 H1885A Launched
Leaders and guests including Seiichi Shimoda, General Manager of the Technical Department at MOL (China) Co., Ltd., Jongmook Park, Leader of the On-site Supervision Team, Hongjing Chen, On-site Project Manager of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Xiaodong Sun, On-site Project Manager of the CCS, and Shaoying Zhang, Deputy Chief Constructor of LNG Projects at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, attended the lauching ceremony of the 6th Vessel (H1885A) for the CNOOC Project.
It is understood that the three new vessels are fifth-generation LNG carriers from the Changheng series, representing Huadong China’s independently developed flagship products. Compared to the previous generation, these vessels feature a lightweight design reducing deadweight by 1,500 tons and employ a twin-fin stern design to enhance navigation efficiency, enabling an additional 800 cbm of LNG per voyage. In terms of low-carbon performance, this vessel type reduces daily carbon emissions by over 10 tons, lowers fuel and gas consumption by 10%, and decreases LNG vaporization by 15%. All metrics achieve globally leading standards.
Currently, Hudong-Zhonghua has delivered 52 LNG carriers and has a record 24 LNG carriers under construction, which fully demonstrates that the company’s active implementation of the LNG production capacity doubling strategy has achieved great results and is of great strategic significance to national energy security and the development of the shipbuilding industry.
Facing intense competition in the global LNG carrier market, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding takes this record as a new starting point to continuously deepen lean management and digital transformation, resolutely advancing toward a new milestone of delivering over 10 large LNG carriers by 2025.
