On October 10, following over 90 days of upgrade and conversion work, Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co., Ltd. (GWS) , a subsidiary of Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), delivered the LNG bunkering vessel “Haiyang Shiyou 301”. This achievement marks another breakthrough for China in the field of LNG vessel conversion, demonstrating continuous improvement in the application of domestic technologies and engineering implementation capabilities.
The conversion project of the “Haiyang Shiyou 301” not only included the completion of the GCU (gas combustion unit) upgrade, the new deep-cold reliquefaction system, the ship-to-ship transfer equipment device and the cargo control system upgrade, but also simultaneously promoted the 10-year special inspection and repair. Among them, the scale and technical complexity of the four liquid cargo tank insulation replacement projects are among the best of their kind.
It is reported that GWS has undertaken conversion projects for the Haiyang Shiyou 301 many times: In December 2018, GWS installed critical equipment including nitrogen generators on the vessel; In November 2022, GWS completed the bunkering capability upgrade of the vessel, transforming it into the world’s largest and China’s first LNG carrier bunkering vessel.
Following the retrofit, “Haiyang Shiyou 301” can now provide efficient ship-to-ship fuel bunkering services to large LNG-fueled vessels berthing at domestic coastal ports, offering crucial support for the green transformation of China’s coastal shipping industry.
