Recently, with the successful inspection and acceptance of the CSB1616#6S40ME-C9.5+HPSCR main engine, Yichang Marine Diesel Engine (YMD), a subsidiary of CSSC Engine Co.,Ltd.(CSE) ushered in a historic moment — the successful inspection and acceptance of its 1,000th marine engine.
YMD’s development has closely aligned with the growth of China’s shipbuilding industry. In 1983, YMD successfully delivered the first YMD-Sulzer 5RND68M main engine to Jiangnan Shipyard, marking the beginning of the large-scale application of domestically produced low-speed engines. In 2015, YMD delivered the 8S60ME-C8.2 diesel engine, which achieved a rated power of 14,100 kW, breaking the then-record for single-engine power, demonstrating technological breakthroughs in ultra-long stroke and intelligent control.
Facing the low-carbon trend in the shipping industry, YMD is steadily advancing its green product transformation with a focus on technology implementation.
- In 2022, YMD delivered the 6G50ME-C9.6+HPSCR engine. Through the application of a high-pressure SCR system, it meets the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards, becoming one of the first domestically produced engines to meet the IMO’s latest environmental standards.
- In 2024, YMD successfully developed the ultra-long, ultra-thick X92DF cylinder liner, achieving breakthroughs in key LNG dual-fuel engine component technology and achieving domestic production for the first time. Its overall manufacturing technology has reached internationally advanced levels.
In the field of cutting-edge technology, YMD has successfully developed the world’s first ammonia SCR system and is focusing on key research and development related to the gas valve train in the air supply system of dual-fuel low-speed engines.
As one of the few domestic companies with full-process manufacturing capabilities for low-speed engines, YMD has established unique advantages in multiple fields:
Customized HPSCR systems for marine low-speed diesel engines, which are domestically developed, safe, and controllable, achieving millisecond-level core response speeds and compatible with various engine configurations to meet Tier III emission standards. To date, a total of 480 engines have been delivered;
Tarkall-A material cylinder liners have passed the 90-cylinder bore certification by Everllence Company, making YMD a global strategic supplier for MAN Energy Solutions;
In the first half of 2025, YMD’s cylinder liner orders received and delivered reached a record high;
Products for emerging industries are exported to over 30 countries and regions, with components for combined-cycle power plant steam turbines produced by YMD capable of being directly shipped to overseas project sites for installation, demonstrating international customers’ high recognition of YMD’s manufacturing precision.
