On August 22, Chinese shipbuilder Sanfu Shipbuilding held a naming and delivery ceremony for the SEABOARD VIKING—the fifth vessel in US shipowner SEABOARD’s series of 3,500 TEU dual-fuel (LNG+MGO) container ships.
This series of 3,500 TEU dual-fuel container ships is designed by the German engineering firm HB HUNTE and features a forecastle-type design. The primary fuels for these vessels are liquefied natural gas (LNG) and marine gas oil (MGO). They are equipped with vertical LNG storage tanks, which are currently the largest vertical gas tanks installed on ships globally.
The ship can carry more than 1,000 refrigerated containers and is equipped with a refrigerated monitoring system. The ship’s EEDI index meets and exceeds the current industry standards, and its environmental performance far exceeds its peers.
It is reported that at the ceremony, Sanfu Shipbuilding announced that it had signed a contract with the shipowner to build the seventh ship of the same type.
