DSIC Wins NJTC’s 2 LR2 Tanker Construction Bid

Recently, Nanjing Tanker Corporation (NJTC) released an announcement on the results of the new construction project for 2 LR2 product oil/crude oil tankers (secondary procurement): Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC) successfully won the bid for the project. Other shipyards participating in this bidding also include: Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group).

According to the tender announcement, Dalian Shipbuilding’s delivery date is in October 2028.

The new vessels are built in accordance with green and intelligent standards, meeting the latest Chinese shipbuilding quality standards, classification society regulations, relevant international conventions, etc., as well as the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission requirements and the IMO Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase III requirements.

It is understood that NJTC launched its fleet renewal plan in 2024. On September 9 of the same year, NJTC announced an order for four 50,000-dwt fuel-efficient MR tankers/chemical tankers from Guangzhou Shipyard International and one 18,000-dwt tanker/chemical tanker from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou. On November 28, NJTC announced another order for four 65,000-dwt PANAMAX tankers from Guangzhou Shipyard International.

The tender for two LR2 product/crude oil tankers marks NJTC’s first foray into this tanker segment, further advancing its fleet expansion plan.

According to its official website, NJTC is a specialized tanker shipping company under China Merchants Group and a key river-sea transport subsidiary of China Yangtze Shipping Group. Founded in 1993, NJTC is headquartered in Nanjing. Currently, NJTC owns and controls a fleet of 73 vessels with a total capacity of 2.78 million deadweight tons and an annual transport capacity exceeding 44 million tons.
