CK Line Orders Two $46M Feeder Ships from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding

According to Trade Winds citing Alphaliner, South Korea’s CK Line has signed a contract with China’s largest private shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to build two 1,100TEU feeder container ships, which are scheduled to be delivered in 2027. The order is worth US$92 million, and the price of each ship is as high as US$46 million.

So far this year, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s order intake has slowed significantly. If the above orders are confirmed, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has only 5 orders open to the public this year, totaling 9+4 ships, with delivery dates between 2027 and 2028.

The four previous shipbuilding contracts were: 2+2 4,400 TEU container ships for Thailand’s RCL, 2+2 3,000 TEU container ships for Vietnam’s Hai An Transport and Stevedoring Joint Stock Company (HAIANTS), 2 83,000 DWT bulk carriers for Greece’s Lepta Shipping and 1 75,000 DWT oil tanker for a Greek shipowner.

Although this year’s order intake is far lower than in 2024, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s current order backlog is still full.

According to the “2025 First Quarter Business Update Announcement” released by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, as of May 22, 2025, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s order book has reached 8.73 million compensated gross tons (230 ships) with an order value of US$23.19 billion (approximately RMB 166.9 billion). The delivery schedule is scheduled until 2030, and orders for clean energy ships account for about 74%, covering multiple ship types such as container ships, bulk carriers, gas carriers, and oil tankers.

In addition, in terms of ship delivery, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding’s oil and chemical tanker product line has reached an important milestone – the first LR1-class oil and chemical tanker was officially delivered. The ship was ordered by METROSTAR, and the two parties signed a shipbuilding contract on April 20, 2023, and the ship was delivered and put into operation on July 5, 2025.
