On July 16, Zhoushan Changhong International Shipbuilding (Changhong International) delivered the second 11,500 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship (CHB2028) built for MSC. The new ship was named “MSC INSA.”
It is understood that this ship is the second ship in a series of 10 ships, jointly developed and designed by Changhong International and CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC), with full intellectual property rights shared. The ship has a total length of 335 meters, a beam of 45.6 meters, a depth of 25 meters, a design speed of 20 knots, and is classified by DNV.
This ship features a dual-island layout and is equipped with the largest C-type LNG fuel tanks in its class. Both the LNG mode and fuel mode offer sufficient range to meet the requirements of a single round trip on classic Europe-China or China-US routes, ensuring flexibility in the shipowner’s operational plans.
The ship is clean, environmentally friendly and has low carbon emissions. Compared with existing ships of the same type, it can save about 5% of fuel. Equipped with shaft generators and wind deflectors, the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) is about 40% lower than the stringent third-stage emission baseline of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The ship not only uses LNG and traditional fuel dual-power propulsion, but also adopts the industry’s most cutting-edge ammonia fuel “Ready” design.
As the second ship in the series, the successful delivery of “MSC INSA” marks a solid step forward for Changhong International in promoting refined management, improving production efficiency, shortening construction cycle and reducing construction costs, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality delivery of subsequent ships.
