French engineering company Technip Energies has been awarded a large contract representing between €250 million and €500 million of revenueto perform preliminary activities for a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) unit in Africa.
The contract will be effective until Sept 30, 2025.
“This order intake represents Technip Energies’ portion of a joint venture and will be recorded in the project delivery segment’s backlog in the third quarter of 2025,” the company explained.
While the identity of the customer was not disclosed, Technip Energies’ contract follows closely on the heels of Samsung Heavy Industries’ $637 million FLNG pre-contract announced on July 7. Samsung Heavy Industries’ contract is similar to Technip Energies’ agreement and is expected to expire at the end of September.
Sources say that the FLNG unit covered by the Samsung Heavy Industries contract is likely to be deployed in Eni’s Coral Norte project in Mozambique. If finalized, the FLNG “Coral Norte” will be worth up to approximately US$2.5 billion.
Currently, Eni operates an FLNG in Mozambique, with the FLNG Coral South beginning exports of natural gas to Europe in 2022. Technip Energies is also involved in this project. In addition to the Coral South project, Technip Energies is also involved in the PFLNG Satu project in Malaysia and the Prelude FLNG project in Australia. These three projects have a combined annual production capacity of 8.2 million tons.
Technip Energies is a global leader in FLNG, having delivered three open-sea units worldwide with a total capacity of 8.2 million tons per annum. This includes PFLNG SATU in Malaysia, Prelude FLNG in Australia and Coral Sul FLNG in Mozambique.
