On July 16, CSSC Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) signed and delivered the second 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC (pure car and track carrier) “BYD ZHENGZHOU” built for BYD Group.
Two PCTCs of this type were built at GSI, of which the first PCTC, BYD HEFEI, was delivered and put into operation in early January. BYD Group is the direct shipowner of both vessels. With the second PCTC, BYD Zhengzhou, being put into operation, the guarantee capacity of China’s domestically produced automobile export transportation will be further enhanced.
The successful cooperation between GSI and BYD marks a good start of cooperation between China’s automobile manufacturing giant and first-class shipbuilding company. It is also another example of both parties fully relying on their strengths and advantages in their respective fields to promote the coordinated economic development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
With its own technological advantages, GSI has received orders nearly for 40 PCTCs, maintaining its global leadership in this market segment. So far, GSI has successfully built and delivered 17 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTCs and 1 8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC, with a total of 127,600 vehicle spaces.
At present, GSI has formed a ship type matrix of liquid cargo vessels, container vessels, ro-ro vessels, high-end passenger and ro-ro vessels, semi-submersible vessels, and polar vessels. In the construction of PCTC, GSI and its sister companies have exchanged benchmarks, promoted and improved each other, and through continuous promotion of lean management, multi-dimensional and full-process lean improvement, production efficiency has been greatly improved.
It is worth noting that excluding the “BYD ZHENGZHOU” delivered this time, BYD has put into operation 6 PCTCs, namely “EXPLORER NO.1”, “BYD CHANGZHOU”, “BYD HEFEI”, “BYD SHENZHEN”, “BYD XI’AN” and “BYD CHANGSHA”, which have transported more than 70,000 new energy vehicles in total.
