Recently, CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding began construction of the first vessel in a series of 4,300-TEU container ships for Ningbo Ocean Shipping, marking the project’s entry into the substantive construction phase for this batch of four vessels.

The 4,300 TEU container ship has a total length of approximately 220 meters and a beam of 37.5 meters, with a designed service speed of about 19 knots. Compared to container ships of the same tonnage, this vessel offers advantages such as a large container capacity, low per-container transportation costs, and high operational flexibility. It is the largest container ship in terms of container capacity that Ningbo Ocean Shipping has commissioned to date.
In terms of environmental protection, this vessel class integrates advanced equipment such as desulfurization towers, SCR denitrification systems, and high-voltage shore power systems. While docked, it can achieve “zero emissions” by using shore power, fully complying with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) emission reduction requirements. In terms of smart technology, this vessel class is equipped with an integrated smart ship system that encompasses functional modules such as smart energy efficiency management, equipment health management, smart navigation, and video management, supporting integrated ship-shore management.
In recent years, Ningbo Ocean Shipping has consistently adhered to a strategy of balancing expansion and optimization in its capacity planning, achieving significant results in expanding its fleet size and building a green, smart fleet.
Statistics show that as of the end of June 2026, Ningbo Ocean Shipping operated a fleet of 119 vessels with a total capacity of 1.86 million deadweight tons (DWT) and approximately 105,000 TEUs. Among these, 33 were self-owned green, energy-efficient vessels; notably, the world’s largest—and among China’s first—10,000-ton class pure-electric intelligent container ships entered commercial operation during the first half of the year. Meanwhile, the company’s new shipbuilding projects for 1,900, 2,700, and 4,300 TEU vessels are progressing according to schedule in a phased manner.
