Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard held a steel cutting ceremony on June 4 for the new luxury cruise ship “Oceania Sonata,” which Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) ordered for its Oceania Cruises subsidiary, the Italian shipbuilding group announced on its official website.
The “Oceania Sonata” that was started this time has a gross tonnage of 86,000 and can accommodate approximately 1,450 passengers. It is the first ship of the new Sonata-class cruise ship, which is based on the acclaimed Allura-class cruise ship.
In April 2024, NCLH entered into a newbuilding order with Fincantieri for the design and construction of three types of eight cruise ships for NCLH’s Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Line. all eight ships are now in force.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ 2 new cruise ships are expected to be delivered in 2026 and 2029, with a gross tonnage of 77,000 and a capacity of approximately 850 passengers.
Novitec Cruises’ four new ships, which take effect in early 2025 and are scheduled for delivery in 2030, 2032, 2034 and 2036, are the largest cruise ships ever built by the cruise brand, with a gross tonnage of approximately 200,000 and a capacity of about 5,000 passengers each.
