Hudong-Zhonghua Delivers World’s Largest 24,000TEU LNG-Powered Container Ship Ahead of Schedule

On June 6, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding named and delivered the world’s largest 24,000TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel powered ultra-large container ship “CMA CGM Saint-Germain”. The ship was delivered more than 6 months ahead of the contract period.

This is the second 24,000TEU dual-fuel powered ultra-large container ship built by Hudong-Zhonghua for the French CMA CGM Group, further enhancing the company’s voice and competitiveness in the global shipbuilding industry.

The “CMA CGM Saint-Germain” is 399 meters in length, 61.3 meters in width, 33.5 meters in depth and has a designed draft of 14.5 meters. The ship can carry 220,000 tons of cargo, 23,876 containers at a time, and 2,200 standard refrigerated containers. The maximum number of stacking layers is 24, equivalent to the height of a 25-story building.

Designed with LNG power, it meets the world’s most stringent emission requirements. Compared to container ships of the same type powered by fuel oil, it reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 20%, nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 85%, and particulate matter and sulfur oxide emissions by 99%, significantly minimizing environmental pollution. Additionally, the vessel boasts advantages such as strong loading capacity, low fuel and gas consumption, excellent transport performance, high safety standards, and a more comfortable living area, earning high praise from shipowners.

As a global leader in ultra-large container ship construction, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding actively promotes global low-carbon transformation, clean energy applications and sustainable development, has achieved remarkable results in the industry, and has become a new benchmark in the new generation of ultra-large dual-fuel container ship construction market.
