Wallenius Wilhelmsen Finalizes Two Three-Year Shipping and Logistics Contracts Valued at Over $1 Billion

On October 29, Wallenius Wilhelmsen announced that it had finalized two three-year contracts for shipping and logistics services, with a total value exceeding $1 billion. Of this, approximately $950 million is attributed to shipping services, while about $100 million relates to logistics operations.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen did not disclose the customer’s identity, referring to it only as a long-term partner. The freight rates under the new shipping agreement are reportedly roughly on par with those in the previous three-year contract; the specific effective date of the contract and the projected cargo volume have not yet been disclosed.

“Our long-standing relationship with the customer gives us a deep understanding of their business and evolving shipping and logistics needs. By combining the scale of our global network with reliable capacity and operational flexibility, we are well positioned to support their global supply chain,” says John Felitto, Chief Customer Officer at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

In January of this year, Wallenius Wilhelmsen signed a $130 million shipping agreement with an Asian manufacturer of vehicles and heavy equipment. In March, it secured a $190 million contract renewal with another Asian manufacturer in the same sector. Then, in June, the company reached a $420 million renewal agreement with a major European automaker, extending the contract through mid-2031.

This latest $1 billion contract follows the company’s announcement that it has placed orders for up to 12 CEU PCTCs to be built at a Chinese shipyard.

On October 28, Wallenius Wilhelmsen announced an agreement with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) for the construction of 9,900-CEU PCTCs—an initial order of four vessels with an option for eight more. Including the optional vessels, the total value of the order is approximately $1.5 billion. The first four ships are scheduled for delivery in mid-2030; should the options be exercised, an additional four vessels would be delivered in 2031, followed by another four in 2032.

With the latest orders, Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s order book for new vessels at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Jiangsu) has grown to 26 ships (including 8 options), comprising 8 11,700 CEU PCTCs, 6 9,300 CEU PCTCs, and 4+8 9,900 CEU PCTCs.

According to its official website, Wallenius Wilhelmsen is a market leader in RoRo transport and vehicle logistics, providing global customers with transportation services for cars, trucks, RoRo equipment, and bulk cargo. The company operates in 28 countries and regions, manages a fleet of approximately 125 vessels, serves 15 trade routes across six continents, and maintains a global inland distribution network, 66 handling centers, and seven marine terminals.
