On October 23, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) signed a contract with the Monaco-based company TRANSOCEAN for the construction of two 50,000 DWT chemical/oil tankers, with the signing ceremony held via video conference. This agreement marks a breakthrough for GSI, as it secures its first-ever order from the Monaco shipping market.

Founded in the 1960s, TRANSOCEAN is a long-established family-owned company headquartered in Monaco. It specializes in dry bulk and tanker shipping and currently operates a fleet of 15 vessels.
This is the third order for 50,000 DWT class chemical/oil tankers that GSI has announced this month.
Earlier this month, Advantage Tankers placed an order with GSI for six 49,900 DWT MR2 product tankers, with deliveries scheduled between the first quarter of 2029 and the second quarter of 2030. This order marks Advantage Tankers’ entry into the MR product tanker market—a shift for the company, which has focused primarily on Suezmax tankers and VLCCs in recent years.
Additionally, on October 7, the Greek-listed tanker owner TOP Ships announced that it had signed a contract with GSI for the construction of four 50,000 DWT, Ice Class 1A MR product tankers, with deliveries scheduled between the second quarter of 2029 and the first quarter of 2030.
