U-Ming Marine Subsidiary Orders Six Bulk Carriers Worth US$300 Million from Two Chinese Shipbuilders

A subsidiary of the Taiwan-based shipowner U-Ming Marine Transport Corp (U-Ming Marine) has placed orders with two shipbuilders for a total of six bulk carriers across two vessel types, with a combined contract value of approximately US$300 million.

U-Ming Marine recently announced that its subsidiary, U-Ming Marine Transport (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., has ordered two 211,000 DWT bulk carriers from Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (HT) at a price of US$77 million to US$80 million per vessel, bringing the total transaction value to between US$154 million and US$160 million. Additionally, the company has ordered four 64,000 DWT bulk carriers from Sumec Marine and New Dayang Shipyard at a price of US$35.5 million to US$38 million per vessel, with a total transaction value ranging from US$142 million to US$152 million.

As early as June of this year, U-Ming Marine Transport (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. placed an order with HT for two firm plus two optional 211,000 DWT bulk carriers, with a unit price ranging from US$77 million to US$80 million. The newly disclosed order likely represents the exercise of the options from the June agreement; the total cost for these four vessels is estimated at US$308 million to US$320 million, with delivery expected in 2030.

U-Ming Marine stated that its 211,000 DWT bulk carriers feature a next-generation, eco-friendly, and energy-efficient design; optimized hull lines enable both massive cargo capacity and superior fuel efficiency. The vessels are equipped with emission-reducing and energy-saving technologies—such as scrubbers and shaft generators—and incorporate designs ready for biofuel adoption and shore power systems, ensuring better compatibility with future low-carbon fuel applications and mandatory global port emission regulations.

For New Dayang Shipyard, this order for four 64,000 DWT bulk carriers is not its first collaboration with U-Ming Marine; the two parties have previously signed contracts for multiple vessels of this class. The most recent order, placed in 2024, covers four “Crown 63” (Version 3.0) bulk carriers. Featuring fully independent intellectual property rights, this vessel type—a “star” product for New Dayang Shipyard—measures 199.99 meters in length overall, with a beam of 32.26 meters and a depth of 18.80 meters.
