Zhoushan Changhong International delivered the 10,300 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship “MSC MARIA MARILYN X” to MSC on July 30, with the official signing of delivery documents. The vessel was named on July 29, one day prior to delivery.
Reportedly, this series of vessels was jointly developed by Changhong International and CIMC Offshore Engineering Research Institute (CIMC ORIC). It represents a new generation of “green” container ships in the 10,000-TEU class, featuring an overall length of approximately 300 meters, a molded breadth of 45.6 meters, and a design speed of 20 knots.
The vessels utilize an LNG dual-fuel propulsion system and are designed to be “ready” for future ammonia and methanol fuel adoption, laying the groundwork for carbon-neutral shipping. Through multi-objective hull form optimization, the ships are equipped with the largest Type-C LNG fuel tanks in their class; whether operating on LNG or conventional fuel, they possess sufficient range to complete a round trip on China-Europe or China-US routes without refueling, offering industry-leading operational flexibility for vessels of this size.
The first vessel in the series, “MSC Maria Renata”, was delivered on May 25—159 days ahead of schedule; the second, “MSC Maria Laura”, was delivered on June 8—206 days early; and the third, “MSC Maria Marilyn X”, was successfully delivered 274 days ahead of schedule, setting a new record for early delivery within the series.
According to earlier reports, Zhoushan Changhong International and MSC signed a contract in 2023 for the construction of ten 10,300 TEU LNG-powered container ships; the total contract value is approximately US$1.3 billion, with deliveries expected to take place successively before 2027.
