Recently, the second 24,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel ultra-large container vessel, named “CMA CGM PANTHEON”, has departed from the dock of Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding—a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding—and embarked on its maiden voyage. The vessel’s naming and delivery signing ceremony was held on July 21.
The “CMA CGM PANTHEON” is the second vessel in a series of 10 24,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel ultra-large container ships built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for CMA CGM. Construction began in February 2025, and the vessel was delivered 71 days ahead of the contractual delivery date.
It is reported that this ship is registered with Bureau Veritas (BV) of France. It has a length of 399.9 meters, a beam of 61.30 meters, a depth of 33.5 meters, a design draft of 14.5 meters, a structural draft of 16.5 meters, and a speed of 21.55 knots. Equipped with 18,600 cubic meters of membrane-type fuel tanks, the vessel can operate round-trip services between Asia and Europe on a single LNG refueling. It is currently one of the world’s most environmentally friendly, technically advanced, and operationally efficient ultra-large container ships in service.
It is reported that in June 2023, the CMA CGM Group placed an order with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding for 10 24,000-TEU dual-fuel LNG-powered container ships, each costing $240 million, with delivery scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2027. With this major order, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has become China’s first privately owned shipbuilder to construct 24,000-TEU-class dual-fuel container ships.
