Another new shipbuilding project involving Sumec Marine’s New Dayang Shipyard has been revealed.
According to TradeWinds, Greek dry bulk owner JME Navigation has returned to the Chinese shipyard, placing an order for one 64,000 DWT Ultramax bulk carrier with New Dayang Shipyard; delivery is expected in early 2030.
Sources revealed that the contract was signed some time ago, though neither party had publicly disclosed the deal.
Including this latest order, JME Navigation currently has three Ultramax bulk carriers on order at New Dayang Shipyard, with one vessel ordered for each year from 2024 to 2026. Data from Clarksons indicates that the first two vessels are scheduled for delivery in July 2027 and October 2028, respectively.
It is worth noting that JME Navigation and New Dayang Shipyard have a long history of cooperation, having first partnered as early as 2013–2015, when the shipyard was known as Yangzhou Dayang Shipyard.
Since Sumec Marine restructured New Dayang Shipyard, the shipowner has returned to the shipyard three times to order new vessels; the most recently announced order for one bulk carrier marks the fourth collaboration between the two parties.
JME Navigation has ordered New Dayang Shipyard’s “flagship product”, the CROWN63 series bulk carrier. This vessel type has a total length of 199.99 meters, a beam of 32.26 meters, and a draft of 18.80 meters, and New Dayang Shipyard holds full independent intellectual property rights for the design.
This month, the new ship orders announced by New Dayang Shipyard have primarily consisted of bulk carriers and container ships; aside from JME Navigation, all other orders were placed by domestic shipowners.
