In the first half of 2026, China’s ship repair industry maintained steady progress and improved quality, successfully getting off to a strong start for the 15th Five-Year Plan.
In the global ship repair market, 60% of commercial shipping vessels are repaired by Chinese shipyards. Based on a sample of more than 30 leading Chinese ship repair enterprises (referred to as the “G30”), 3,858 vessels were completed and delivered in the first half of the year, representing a year-over-year increase of 4.97%; the sector’s output value reached 25.4 billion yuan (approximately $3.749 billion), up 5.78% year-over-year. The growth rate of output value exceeded that of the number of vessels completed, signaling the industry’s continued structural optimization and sustained profitability.

Despite a slump in the second quarter, China’s ship repair industry continued to grow in the first half of the year, with ship repair enterprises operating under corporate groups holding a clear competitive advantage.
The five ship repair yards under COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry collectively completed more than 700 vessels in the first half of the year, with an output value nearing 7 billion yuan (approximately $1.033 billion), maintaining their leading position among China’s ship repair enterprises.
The four ship repair yards under China Merchants Shipbuilding completed more than 300 vessels in the first half of the year and achieved an output value exceeding 3 billion yuan, continuing to trail closely behind.
Zhoushan Xinya Shipyard’s two ship repair yards recorded impressive figures in the first half of the year, completing 336 vessels and generating 2.7 billion yuan (approximately $270 million) in output value, with both metrics growing by more than 17%.
It is worth noting that although China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s (CSSC) seven ship repair yards have not yet been integrated under a unified management structure, they collectively completed 626 vessels and achieved an output value of 4.45 billion yuan.
The Bohai Rim ship repair sector continues to make breakthroughs, with more than 10 projects generating over 10 million yuan in output value per vessel in the first half of the year, drawing industry-wide attention. Among them, Shanhaiguan Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (SHGSIC) has brought its average dry-dock repair cycle down to 80 hours in the first half of the year, as efficiency continues to improve.
