On August 21, the “Haiyang Shiyou 292”, a new-generation, multi-purpose offshore engineering vessel independently developed by China, was officially named and delivered in Qidong, Jiangsu Province. This further enhances China’s professional service capabilities in underwater engineering and the maintenance of offshore facilities, providing critical equipment support for accelerating the development of deep-sea energy resources. Construction of the vessel began in December 2024.

The “Haiyang Shiyou 292” features a double-hull structure and a monohull streamlined design. With a total length of 126 meters, a beam of 28 meters, and a displacement exceeding 17,600 tons, its deck area is equivalent to nearly five standard basketball courts. The vessel is equipped with an advanced all-electric azimuth propulsion system and a DP2 dynamic positioning system, enabling it to navigate any waters worldwide.
The vessel is equipped with a 400-ton crane and comes pre-loaded with advanced equipment such as a 3,000-ton cable reel, underwater robots, and underwater trenchers, enabling it to perform a wide range of operations including deep-water offshore engineering development, construction, maintenance, repair, and emergency response. The vessel is suitable for comprehensive marine engineering operations across multiple sea areas, including the installation of subsea pipelines, cables, and structures; seabed surveys; and transport support. Its digitalization, intelligence, and environmental sustainability meet the advanced standards of comparable equipment.
Offshore Oil Engineering Co., Ltd. (COOEC) has continued to strengthen its offshore engineering equipment capabilities and has successfully built an offshore engineering fleet consisting of 20 specialized vessels across six major categories, including deepwater multi-purpose workboats, crane vessels, pipe-laying vessels, trenching vessels, and large launching barges. The fleet includes core assets such as China’s first 3,000-meter deepwater pipe-laying and lifting vessel, the “Haiyang Shiyou 201”; the largest offshore oil and gas engineering lifting vessel, the “Blue Whale 7500”; and Asia’s largest launching barge, the “Haiyang Shiyou 229.” With these assets, COOEC has developed the capability to operate across all sea areas—from shallow to ultra-deep waters and from nearshore to the deep and distant seas—providing strong support for the independent and controllable development of China’s offshore oil and gas resources and for ensuring energy security.
