Recently, Hubei OceanTech Ship Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Hubei OceanTech Ship Heavy Industry”) secured contracts for eight shipbuilding orders before production had even begun, with a total sales value of 800 million yuan (approximately $117 million). This achievement has provided a boost to the development of the Yidu Green and Smart Shipbuilding Industrial Park and is helping to drive the green and smart transformation of shipping on the Yangtze River.

It is reported that Hubei OceanTech Ship Heavy Industry’s “New Construction Project for a Green and Smart Shipyard with an Annual Production Capacity of 25 Multi-Purpose Vessels” was approved in October 2025 and broke ground the following month. With a total investment of 2 billion yuan, the project is located in the Yidu Green and Smart Shipbuilding Industrial Park. It will focus on producing high-end, high-value-added vessel types such as roll-on/roll-off (RO-RO) ships, LNG-powered cargo ships, and standardized containerized battery-swap cargo ships. The ratio of offshore to inland waterway vessel construction has been set at 7:3, demonstrating the company’s ambition to compete in the international market.
Once the facility is fully operational, it is expected to achieve an annual shipbuilding capacity of 250,000 deadweight tons and produce 25 10,000-ton-class vessels per year. It will be capable of constructing vessels up to 150 meters in length, 27 meters in width, and 24 meters in height. The facility will create synergies with existing enterprises in the industrial park, further strengthening Yidu’s new energy shipbuilding and intelligent equipment manufacturing industrial cluster.
Upon full-scale production, the project is expected to generate an annual output value of 1.5 billion yuan (approximately $219 million), generate 45 million yuan in tax revenue, and create over 2,000 jobs. It will play a significant role in strengthening the local economy and promoting the integration of industry and urban development, while also providing strong momentum for the green and smart transformation of inland waterway vessels on the Yangtze River.
Hubei OceanTech Ship Heavy Industry stated that the main construction of the base project is 80% complete. The company is currently focusing all efforts on the steel structure construction of Workshop No. 1, with plans to begin trial production by the end of May and achieve full-scale production in the second half of the year, thereby supporting the upgrading of the regional shipbuilding industry. In addition to the eight shipbuilding orders already secured, the company currently has more than ten letters of intent. Upon commencement of production, it plans to apply for a Class I, Category II shipbuilding qualification and is committed to establishing a hub for green and intelligent shipbuilding in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
Hubei OceanTech Ship Heavy Industry was established on October 30, 2024, and is located in the Qixingtai Shipbuilding Industrial Park in Zhijiang City. Its business scope encompasses multiple sectors, including metal shipbuilding and the manufacture of marine equipment. The company focuses on diversified business segments such as the design and construction of specialty vessels and the export of intelligent shipping equipment.
