CSSC Chengxi has received orders for two new vessels

On March 31, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), together with China Shipbuilding Industry Trading, signed a contract via video conference with a prominent European shipowner for the construction of two 3,100 TEU container ships.

It is reported that this project marks the second container shipbuilding order secured by CSSC Chengxi following the 910RFEU all-refrigerated container ship, signaling a new breakthrough for the company in the feeder container ship sector. With this, CSSC Chengxi’s current order book now encompasses its three main vessel types: bulk carriers, container ships, and oil tankers.

The 3,100 TEU container ship is a new-generation, highly efficient, and eco-friendly feeder container vessel independently developed by the Shanghai Research and Design Institute of Shipbuilding. It has an overall length of 199.9 meters, a beam of 35.3 meters, a depth of 17.90 meters, a design draft of 11.00 meters, and a design service speed of 18.4 knots.

This vessel design is environmentally friendly, with carbon emissions far below the International Maritime Organization’s EEDI requirements. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions meet Tier III control standards, and sulfur oxide (SOx) emissions fully comply with regulatory requirements, effectively reducing environmental pollution. Compared to similar vessels, this design offers significant advantages in key technical parameters such as loading capacity, deadweight tonnage, and fuel consumption.
