Hudong-Zhonghua Delivers 61st LNG Carrier, Docks 100th Unit

On March 31, the lead vessel (H1930A) of the 18,600-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel series being built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) for TotalEnergies of France was successfully launched from Dock No. 1 at the company’s new shipyard.

On April 1, the “Green Wind,” the fifth LNG carrier in the “Green Energy” series built by Hudong-Zhonghua, was delivered three months ahead of schedule.

The world’s latest V3.0 1,860-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel has been launched

The H1930A is the world’s newest V3.0 version 18,600-cubic-meter LNG bunkering vessel and marks the 100th LNG storage and transportation vessel built by Hudong-Zhonghua. The vessel incorporates a wide range of green, eco-friendly, and low-carbon equipment, making this state-of-the-art V3.0 bunkering vessel even more environmentally friendly. It offers superior ship-to-shore compatibility, lower energy consumption and emissions, and enhanced energy efficiency and environmental performance. It is compatible with LNG-powered vessel types such as Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), LR2 tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, and car carriers (PCTCs). The vessel holds green classification symbols including SustainableShip-1, EU Green Passport (GREEN PASSPORT EU), and Clean Ship (CLEANSHIP) certifications, significantly enhancing the vessel’s energy-saving, emission-reduction, and low-carbon environmental performance during operation.

This vessel is also the first ship to be launched from Dry Dock No. 1 at Hudong-Zhonghua’s new shipyard. The vessel was launched in good condition, with all integrity, leak-tightness, and strength tests for the cargo holds and containers completed. Leak-tightness testing for all conventional piping throughout the ship has been completed, and the generators are essentially ready for startup. In the cargo hold section, the installation of all insulation layers has been completed for the first time. The hoisting of the pump tower within the dry dock and the removal of the scaffolding have been completed, and the sealing of the side process openings has been finalized. The project is currently progressing toward the goal of sealing the cargo holds.

Delivery of the “Green Wind,” a fifth-generation “Changheng Series” LNG carrier

The “Green Wind” has an overall length of 299 meters, a beam of 46.4 meters, and a draft of 26.25 meters. It is equipped with dual-fuel main engines featuring the latest Intelligent Exhaust Gas Recirculation (iCER) system technology. The vessel offers numerous advantages, including excellent rapid response performance, low overall energy consumption, outstanding low-temperature performance, strong compatibility with various cargo configurations, a light deadweight, exceptional cargo-carrying capacity, convenient operation and maintenance, and high route adaptability. The completion and delivery of the “Green Wind” holds significant importance for enhancing China’s self-reliance in LNG transportation, strengthening its bargaining power over resources in the international LNG market, and increasing its global influence.

The LNG carrier “Green Wind” is the 61st LNG carrier delivered by Hudong-Zhonghua as part of its deep commitment to the high-end shipbuilding sector. As a fifth-generation “Changheng Series” green and intelligent vessel, its delivery not only signifies that China’s LNG carrier construction capabilities continue to lead the industry and firmly hold a position in the global top tier, but also effectively safeguards national energy transportation security, enhances the self-reliance and control of “domestic gas and domestic transport,” and injects “Chinese strength” into the global shipping industry’s green transition.
