Samsung Heavy Industries Secures $253M LNG Carrier Order

On March 20, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it had signed a contract with an Oceania-based shipping company to build one liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. The order is valued at 377.9 billion won (approximately $253 million) and is expected to be delivered by April 2029.

This month, Samsung Heavy Industries has announced three shipbuilding contracts: in addition to one LNG carrier, these include three crude oil tankers ordered by a party affiliated with JPMorgan and one crude oil tanker ordered by the UK-based Zodiac Maritime, all of which are Suezmax-class tankers.

With this latest order, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for 12 new vessels worth $2.4 billion this year, achieving approximately 17% of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.

By vessel type, the fleet includes 4 LNG carriers, 2 ethane carriers, 2 container ships, and 4 crude oil tankers.

A Samsung Heavy Industries spokesperson said, “The company is maintaining a selective order-taking strategy focused on high-value-added vessels, while responding flexibly to changes in market conditions.”
