On March 11, CSSC Guangzhou International Shipyard (GSI) kicked off construction on the first vessel of an 8,000 TEU container ship series for Germany’s Tailwind Shipping Lines.

Building on its successful track record in constructing a series of large 16,000 TEU container ships, GSI has launched this new flagship vessel class—a milestone that marks a pivotal step toward diversification and high-end specialization in container ship manufacturing.
The vessel measures 261.4 meters in length, 42.8 meters in beam, and has a design draft of 14.0 meters, with a carrying capacity of 8,400 standard containers. Building upon the experience gained from constructing large 16,000 TEU container ships, this vessel type features further optimized hull lines and cargo-carrying capabilities, embodying characteristics of both high efficiency and eco-friendliness.
The commencement of construction on this vessel type represents both a key initiative by GSI to seize market opportunities and deepen the adjustment of its product structure, and a concrete manifestation of its active response to the strategy of high-quality development.
Reportedly, this vessel represents a significant outcome of the deepened collaboration between GSI and a German shipowner, as well as the second type of container ship constructed by GSI. It provides robust support for further strengthening GSI’s core capabilities in the design and construction of container vessels, while simultaneously consolidating and elevating the company’s industry standing within the container shipping market. Upon its completion, the vessel will further augment Taiying Shipping’s carrying capacity on Asia-Europe routes and enhance its capabilities in safeguarding global supply chains.
