On August 4, Dajin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Dajin Heavy Industry” or the “Company”) announced that its subsidiary, Tangshan Dajin Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd., has signed a contract with a Norwegian shipowner to build two 211,000 DWT bulk carriers. The total contract value is equivalent to approximately 1 billion RMB (approximately $148 million); based on this calculation, the construction cost per vessel is approximately 500 million RMB.
This type of bulk carrier has an overall length of approximately 299.95 meters, a beam of approximately 50 meters, and a draft of approximately 25 meters, and will be delivered in batches starting in 2029.
Dajin Heavy Industry did not disclose specific details about the shipowner, stating only that this Norwegian shipowner focuses on operating its own fleet, investing in new shipbuilding, buying and selling secondhand vessels, entering into long-term charters, and expanding into offshore engineering projects, and has recently engaged in a similar transaction with Da Jin Heavy Industries.
Dajin Heavy Industry stated that the signing of this shipbuilding contract signifies that the company’s shipbuilding capabilities have been widely recognized by leading international shipowners, and the fulfillment of this contract is expected to have a positive impact on the company’s future operating performance.
This marks the second time in half a month that Dajin Heavy Industry has announced a bulk carrier order. On July 20, the shipbuilder announced that it had signed a contract with a Greek shipowner to build 3+1 bulk carriers with a deadweight tonnage of 211,000, for a total value of approximately 2.1 billion yuan. According to market reports, the shipowner behind that order is Evalend Shipping.
It is worth noting that Tangshan Dajin Offshore Engineering is a new shipyard that was established just four months ago. It is wholly owned by Tianjin Jinyin Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dajin Heavy Industry, and is a core offshore engineering division within the Dajin Heavy Industry group.
With the announcement of the latest order, Dajin Heavy Industry has secured contracts for 9+1 bulk carriers with a deadweight tonnage of 211,000 for this new shipyard, with a total contract value exceeding RMB 4.6 billion. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2029. The other two orders consist of 4 bulk carriers announced on June 1, 2026, and 3+1 bulk carriers announced on July 20.
