CIMC SOE Secures 10 MGC Orders, Leads Green Transition with Ammonia-fueled LPG Carrier Design

Recently, CIMC Enric’s subsidiary Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (CIMC SOE) delivered its first 40,000 m³ Mid-Sized Gas Carrier (MGC) to shipowner Exmar, marking another solid step forward in the field of new clean energy ship construction.

Currently, CIMC SOE has successfully gained the trust of international shipowners, including Exmar, Capital Gas and Amon Gas, thanks to its accumulated technical strength and reputation in the field of liquefied gas carriers, and has accumulated 10 MGC vessel orders.

Currently, CIMC SOE’s MGC vessel construction plan is progressing steadily: Exmar’s second 40,000 m³ project (hull number: S1084) is about to be delivered; Capital Gas’s four 40,000 m³ vessels have also commenced construction in sequence; and what is particularly noteworthy is the construction of two 51,000 m³ MGC vessels for Amon Gas, which is scheduled to officially start construction in January 2027.

This is not only the largest-capacity gas carrier built by CIMC SOE, but also one of the industry’s earliest LPG carriers designed to use liquid ammonia as fuel. As a key contender for zero-carbon fuel, liquid ammonia transportation technology represents a crucial piece in the shipping industry’s decarbonization puzzle. CIMC SOE’s pioneering efforts in this field demonstrate not only its keen insight into market trends, but also its corporate commitment to advancing the global shipping industry’s green transition through high-end equipment manufacturing.

Gao Wenbao, Vice President of CIMC Enric and General Manager of CIMC SOE, stated, “CIMC SOE has consistently leveraged its long-standing technological and manufacturing advantages in the global liquefied gas carrier sector to continuously solidify its leading position in the industry. In 2026, we plan to deliver 21 vessels, including 9 high-value-added main gas carriers. Moving forward, the company will continue to contribute its professional expertise to the green transformation of global shipping with a steady and pragmatic approach!”
