Two MSC LNG Dual-Fuel Vessels Start Construction, Two Launch at Zhoushan Changhong International

On January 22, Zhoushan Changhong International, a Chinese shipbuilder, efficiently achieved the key milestone of “two vessels commencing construction and two vessels launching” for the 10,300 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships built for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), demonstrating its outstanding project management and shipbuilding capabilities.

On that morning, the ninth and tenth vessels in the series kicked off construction at the smart workshop, officially entering the block building phase.

Subsequently, the first two vessels were successfully launched from Changhong International Dock No. 1, marking the transition to the underwater engineering phase including outfitting and system commissioning.

It is understood that this vessel type was jointly developed and designed by Zhoushan Changhong International and CIMC Ocean Engineering Design & Research Institute (CIMC ORIC). With an overall length of 299.95 meters and a beam of 45.6 meters, it has a design speed of 20 knots and employs an advanced LNG dual-fuel propulsion system. This high-tech, high-value-added vessel type aligns with the global shipping industry’s green transition trend.

During the construction of this series of vessels, Zhoushan Changhong International has spared no effort in ensuring premium quality and timely delivery by concentrating superior resources, implementing stringent quality and safety controls, and continuously advancing technological innovation. The successful completion of these four major milestones not only solidifies Zhoushan Changhong International’s position as MSC’s core global partner for newbuildings but also further enhances the competitiveness of the “Changhong brand” in the international high-end shipbuilding market.
