CSSC Chengxi Shipyard Posts Robust Growth Across Core Businesses During 14th Five-Year Plan Period

According to the official WeChat account of CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the total economic output of CSSC Chengxi Shipyard, a subsidiary of CSSC Group, continued to increase and its economic benefits continued to grow steadily.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard achieved synergistic development across its four core businesses: ship repair, shipbuilding, defense, and emerging industries. Its economic scale and profitability continued to grow, with total industrial output value reaching RMB 35.885 billion (approximately US$5.153 billion), marking a 62.66% year-on-year increase compared to the 13th Five-Year Plan period.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard achieved remarkable progress in the high-end green and intelligent transformation of its shipbuilding industry. It has secured orders for approximately 170 vessels, with a market share of over 50% for its branded vessel types such as self-unloading vessels and heavy-lift vessels.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard accelerated its transformation and upgrading towards green and high-end ship repair, reducing core resources but achieving a counter-trend increase in capabilities. It received orders for a total of 822 vessels, with a significant leap in high value-added capabilities and the average output value per ship reaching the best level in nearly 5 years; it completed a total of 761 vessels, and the average docking time was reduced to less than 4 days.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard’s emerging industries coordinated resources and improved efficiency, achieving operating revenue exceeding RMB 5.5 billion (approximately US$790 million), a growth rate of 36.8%. Wind turbine products shifted from conventional onshore towers to multi-type tower manufacturing, with a cumulative order for 1,891 sets and shipment of 1,557 sets. The pressure vessel equipment business achieved product transformation, and CSSC Chengxi Shipyard Equipment was awarded the titles of National High-tech Enterprise and National Specialized, Refined, and Innovative “Little Giant” Enterprise. The onshore corrosion protection business opened up new market growth.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard prioritized value creation by implementing target cost management as its foundation. Through persistent lean management and reinforced cost accountability, the yard achieved a 100% profitability rate for completed vessels starting in 2024—marking its best performance in nearly a decade.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard implemented green, energy-saving, and carbon-reduction principles while benchmarking against world-class standards to accelerate product upgrades. This enabled iterative improvements in shipbuilding capabilities, successfully transforming from a single bulk carrier design to seven distinct branded vessel types. The proportion of self-developed vessels in its order book peaked at 78%.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard has steadily advanced its digital and intelligent transformation, constructing and putting into operation a total of 15 automated production lines. The yard has accumulated 695 valid patents, undertaken 27 scientific research projects commissioned by state ministries and commissions, provincial and municipal governments, as well as China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). It has also secured over RMB 60 million in fiscal research and innovation funds, and won more than 30 honors at various levels, including Science and Technology Progress Awards and the title of “National Intellectual Property Advantage Enterprise”.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, CSSC Chengxi Shipyard established 46 inspection-exempt operation zones and formed 137 QC teams. It won the ICQCC Gold Award for the first time, with two teams recognized as National Outstanding QC Teams and ten teams honored as National Outstanding Quality Trustworthy Teams.
