Recently, CSSC Wuhan Marine Machinery Plant (WMMP, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation) secured orders for hydraulic submersible pump systems and offshore cranes to be integrated into CNOOC’s Kaiping 11-4 cylindrical FPSO project. This cylindrical FPSO is the second vessel of its kind planned for deployment by CNOOC, following the outstanding operational performance of the flagship “Haikui No.1” FPSO since its commissioning.

The Kaiping 11-4 oilfield is located in the western part of the eastern South China Sea, including Block 11-4 and Block 18-1. The development project for Block 18-1 of the Kaiping 11-4 oilfield adopts a “subsea production system connected to a cylindrical FPSO” model. It is scheduled to commence production in 2029 and, upon completion, will once again set a new record for the largest cylindrical FPSO in Asia.
The two core equipment systems that WMMP has equipped this cylindrical FPSO with both feature upgraded designs incorporating enhanced reliability and intelligent application scenarios. The hydraulic submersible pump system boasts functions such as remote monitoring, automatic start/stop, fault diagnosis and early warning. It can control the pump body to facilitate crude oil export, internal tank transfer, ballast water management, tank cleaning, and emergency unloading, offering high efficiency, reliability, safety, and low maintenance costs. The offshore crane’s machinery room combines excellent ventilation with typhoon-resistant watertightness, and the entire system incorporates intelligent functions such as fault detection and diagnosis, placing it at the forefront of the industry.
Previously, WMMP, through vigorously developing the independent research and development of core equipment for marine engineering, and supported by scientific research projects, collaborated with key enterprises under CNOOC to go through a process of collaborative innovation in the joint development of submersible hydraulic pumps, from component testing on actual vessels and demonstration applications of complete systems to full-ship integration.
WMMP has successively provided hydraulic submersible pump systems and marine crane solutions for high-end offshore engineering applications such as the Haikui No.1 FPSO and Haiji II platform. These contributions enabled both the Haikui No.1 and Haiji II to commence operations simultaneously, earning them recognition as two of the Top Ten National Key Equipment of Central State-Owned Enterprises in 2024.
