CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding’s Upgrade Project Drives High-End, Low-Carbon Upgrade of Ship Repair Industry

On December 9, the China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s (CSSC) Beihai Shipbuilding officially commenced its green ship repair upgrade project. This marks a pivotal step forward in Beihai Shipbuilding’s journey toward green development, injecting new momentum into the green transformation of the ship repair industry.

As a core enterprise of CSSC, Beihai Shipbuilding has always fulfilled the mission and responsibility of state-owned central enterprises, implemented the national “dual carbon” strategy and the concept of green development, adhered to the ship repair business policy of “strengthening refitting, giving consideration to offshore engineering and deepening conventional businesses”, focused on the mass refitting of large ships, customized refitting of offshore engineering projects, and repair business of “high-value and high-tech” ships, and strived to promote the upgrading of the ship repair industry towards green, low-carbon and high-end directions.

This project plans to install 36 new sets of process equipment and increase the building area by 12,000 square meters. Upon completion, it will achieve two major breakthroughs:

On one hand, by upgrading key facilities and equipment, Beihai Shipbuilding enhances its core competitiveness, propelling the industry’s transition from conventional repairs to high-value-added green retrofitting, thereby shortening cycles and improving quality and efficiency. On the other hand, through increased environmental investments, Beihai Shipbuilding comprehensively strengthens its integrated management capabilities for pollutants such as dust and wastewater, achieving coordinated development of economic and social benefits.
