Exmar’s Two New LPG/Ammonia Carriers Named at CIMC SOE

On November 10, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (CIMC SOE) held a naming ceremony for two 40,000 m³ LPG/ammonia carriers ( Hull Nos. S1083 and S1084) built for Belgium’s Exmar Group.

It is understood that these two vessels represent significant technological breakthroughs for CIMC SOE in the field of high-end clean energy transport equipment. They incorporate the latest design concepts and technologies, featuring environmentally friendly dual-fuel main engines.

Not only can the vessels achieve a design speed of up to 16 knots, but by utilizing high-pressure LPG dual-fuel main engines, they significantly reduce pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions during operation, meeting the environmental requirements set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In terms of cargo capacity, this vessel type features three IMO A-type cargo tanks. This design not only optimizes cargo hold utilization efficiency but also enhances overall economic performance. These tanks offer flexible loading capabilities for various liquefied gas cargoes, including LPG, liquid ammonia, and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). This versatility enables the vessel to adapt to diverse transportation demands, thereby strengthening its market competitiveness and operational flexibility.

The two vessels named on this occasion represent the fruit of the powerful alliance between CIMC and Exmar, showcasing CIMC’s outstanding capabilities in the small-to-medium-sized liquefied gas carrier market.

In recent years, the region has been integrated into the development of the national advanced manufacturing cluster for high-tech ships and marine engineering equipment covering Tongzhou, Taizhou and Yangzhou. It has accelerated efforts to build itself into a marine engineering equipment industrial base with core competitiveness and international influence.
