Bermuda-based offshore drilling rig operator Seadrill has announced that one of its semi-submersible rigs and two of its drillships have secured contracts—and contract extensions—worth millions of dollars across the Americas and Asia.
The operations will take place in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and offshore Malaysia, with the new orders totaling approximately $200 million. Following these updates, Seadrill’s total order backlog stands at approximately $2.9 billion as of August 10, 2026.
Specifically, the drillship “West Vela”—built in 2013—has secured a new one-year contract with Talos Energy for operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico; the contract is valued at approximately $161 million (excluding additional services) and is expected to commence in June 2027.
The semi-submersible drilling platform “Sevan Louisiana” built in 2013 has received a contract extension of approximately 45 days based on Walter Oil & Gas’s existing projects. The drilling platform will continue to operate in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico until August 2026.
The drill ship “West Capella” built in 2008 reached a contract extension agreement with the Thai Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (PTTEP) to continue operations in Malaysian waters. The estimated construction period is 75 days. The extended contract value is approximately US$26 million (excluding additional services). The drill ship’s operations will continue until August 2027.
