Monaco-based shipowner Transocean Maritime has ordered feeder container ships from another Chinese shipyard.

Transocean Maritime has ordered two 1,930 TEU feeder container ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, another step in the company’s latest fleet expansion program and its foray into the container ship sector, according to industry news and shipbuilding databases.
The new ships are expected to be delivered in 2028 and will be named “Ajax C” and “Apollo C”.
Transocean, led by Ruth McLoughlin, is known for its dry bulk and tanker business, and currently owns about 15 ships with an average age of seven years, according to reports. The company last entered the newbuilding market in 2024, when it ordered two Ultramax bulk carriers from New Dayang Shipyard.
The order is in line with the trend for traditional bulk and tanker operators to enter the container sector, particularly targeting the small feeder container ship market of 1,700 to 3,000 TEU.
Recent orders have been placed by owners such as Latsis, Oceanbulk and Minerva Marine, all of whom are looking for stable charter yields and strong regional demand in this market segment.
