China’s Revitalized Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding Secures Key Singapore Order for Tankers

On October 18, Jiangxi Xinxingsheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding) successfully signed a contract with a Singaporean shipowner via an online meeting for the construction of 2+2 7,999 DWT oil/chemical tankers and 2+2 1,360 DWT product tankers.

Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding stated that the company has dedicated years to the research, development, and construction of product tankers and chemical tankers. Its 1,360 DWT product tanker focuses on short-haul, high-efficiency transportation while balancing maneuverability and operational economy. Complementing the 7,999 DWT chemical tanker, this product line comprehensively meets the diverse route requirements of Singaporean shipowners.

The order for eight Type 2 vessels signed with the Singaporean shipowner marks Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding’s second announced shipbuilding contract since July this year. The July order came from Nanchang Poyang Lake Shipping, which commissioned the construction of five LNG-powered inland river feeder vessels. This contract signifies a milestone in Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding’s upgrade and modernization efforts, demonstrating its restored shipbuilding capabilities and full operational resurgence.

It is understood that Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding, formerly Jiujiang Xiangsheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., faced development difficulties for the old shipyard. The Jiujiang Municipal Government listed the restructuring of Xiangsheng as a municipal strategic project. By introducing strategic investors from Fujian to complete the asset restructuring, Jiangxi Xinxiangsheng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. was officially established in 2024. At the same time, the company simultaneously launched three major upgrades: hardware, intelligence, and green.

In terms of hardware upgrades, the company has added a 400-ton large gantry crane (with a span of 70 meters), a one-spray-three-coat workshop complying with international PSPC standards, an indoor block manufacturing workshop, and a dedicated stainless steel workshop. For intelligent transformation, it has introduced automated production lines with welding robots and established an intelligent manufacturing system. In the green shipping sector, the company focuses on high-value-added vessel types such as LNG-powered ships and chemical tankers, with its annual production capacity jumping to 200,000 DWT and the annual output value expected to reach RMB 2 billion when operating at full capacity.

The reorganized Xinxingsheng Shipbuilding has established a comprehensive capability system and will open on August 1, 2025, with the steel cutting ceremony for its first ship held on the same day. Xinxingsheng Shipbuilding holds Jiangxi Province’s Class I, Class II steel shipbuilding qualification, ISO four-system certification, and international classification society certifications such as CCS/BV/ABS. Furthermore, Xinxingsheng Shipbuilding boasts extensive experience in the construction of 50,000-ton unlimited-range oil and chemical vessels, LPG/LNG carriers, and offshore vessels, injecting new momentum into the high-quality development of Jiangxi’s shipbuilding industry.

It is reported that the newly restructured Xinxingsheng Shipbuilding announced its commencement of operations on August 1, 2025, and held the keel-laying ceremony for its first vessel following the restructuring on the same day.

For this shipyard, which was rescued from the brink of bankruptcy, securing this batch of overseas orders will enhance its large-scale production and international project management capabilities, drive the alignment of its technologies and processes with overseas demand, and lay a solid foundation for its expansion into the Southeast Asian and global shipping markets.
