On October 19, the world’s largest 10,000-ton pure electric transport vessel “Gezhouba” was launched in Yichang. Its naming ceremony was completed on October 23.

The Gezhouba measures 129.98 meters in length overall, 22 meters in beam, and 7.7 meters in depth, with a design draft of 6.5 meters. With a maximum deadweight of 13,740 tons, it primarily transports bulk commodities commonly found along the Changjiang River mainstem.
The Gezhouba is equipped with 12 sets of containerized lithium-ion battery packs, totaling approximately 24,000 kWh. These batteries can be quickly charged and replaced within half an hour, providing a cruising range of up to 500 kilometers, providing a strong guarantee for long-distance cargo transport.

This futuristic vessel integrates 4G, 5G, BeiDou navigation, and satellite communications into a multi-link network, enabling remote navigation control and automated berthing/unberthing operations. It pioneers integrated intelligent management across vessel, port, and shore.
Following the commissioning of the vessel “Gezhouba”, electric propulsion has replaced 617.5 tons of fuel oil, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,052 tons and contributing to green navigation in inland waterway shipping.
It is reported that the vessel has achieved breakthroughs in key areas such as new energy propulsion, intelligent navigation control, and supporting infrastructure, while successfully validating multiple core technologies including large-capacity batteries and distributed DC integrated power systems.
