Recently, senior executives of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. held a discussion and exchange meeting with a delegation from the Yangjiang Municipal Government of Guangdong Province. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the planning and construction of COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry’s South China ship repair and marine engineering equipment repair and conversion projects, and jointly witnessed the signing of the project.
It is reported that the project, with a total investment exceeding RMB 3 billion (approximately US$421 million), will construct a 400,000-ton dry dock, one 200,000-ton floating dock, and one 80,000-ton floating dock. The facility will primarily undertake repair and conversion services for large container ships, 300,000-ton supertankers, and high-end offshore engineering equipment.
According to a previous announcement by the Yangjiang Municipal Government, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry has established COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangjiang) to expand its business in South China.
As the actual operating entity, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry is building the South China Ship Repair and Offshore Engineering Equipment Repair and Conversion Project in Jiangcheng District, Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province. The project targets the global ship and offshore equipment repair and conversion market, adapts to the development needs of large-scale ships, and is suitable for repairing VLCCs, VLOCs, large container ships and various types of offshore engineering equipment. The goal is to repair and conversion approximately 250 large ocean-going ships and offshore engineering equipment annually.
According to public information, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangjiang) was established on April 1, 2025, and is wholly owned by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry. Its business scope includes ship repair, ship conversion, ship design, and offshore engineering platform equipment manufacturing.
COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry currently owns nine large and medium-sized shipyards, capable of constructing over 7.5 million deadweight tons of merchant ships annually, and undertaking the construction of 12 offshore engineering products and 20 offshore engineering modules. Known as “China’s Ship Repair Carrier” and “the leading FPSO conversion facility,” COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry repairs and converts over 1,500 vessels annually.
