DSIC, NJTC Sign for Two 115,000 DWT Green Tankers

Recently, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (DSIC, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation) and Nanjing Tanker Corporation (NJTC) signed a contract for the construction of two 115,000 DWT product oil/crude oil tankers. Representatives from DSIC, NJTC, China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC) jointly signed the construction contract.

It is reported that the two 115,000 DWT product/crude oil tankers signed in this agreement were custom-built by DSIC for NJTC, representing the current advanced level of green and environmentally friendly oil tankers.

The design of new vessels fully complies with the latest international regulations and environmental standards. It adopts innovative technologies such as hydrodynamically optimized hull lines, energy-saving frequency conversion devices, and intelligent energy efficiency management systems. With an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) meeting Phase 3 standards, these vessels can significantly reduce carbon emissions and operating costs, while effectively enhancing their overall economic efficiency and environmental adaptability.

According to a previous announcement, DSIC’s delivery date is October 2028.

NJTC is understood to have initiated its fleet renewal program in 2024. On September 9 of that year, NJTC announced an order for four 50,000 DWT fuel-efficient MR tankers/chemical tankers from Guangzhou Shipyard International and one 18,000 DWT tanker/chemical tanker from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou. On November 28, NJTC announced an additional order for four 65,000 DWT PANAMAX tankers from Guangzhou Shipyard International.

The order for two LR2 product/crude oil tankers is NJTC’s first foray into this tanker market segment, further advancing its fleet expansion plan.

According to its official website, NJTC is a specialized tanker transportation company under China Merchants Group and a key backbone enterprise engaged in river-sea combined transport under China Yangtze Shipping Group. Established in 1993 and listed on the A-share market in 1997, the company is headquartered in Nanjing. Currently, NJTC owns and controls a fleet of 73 vessels with a total deadweight capacity of 2.78 million tons, achieving an annual transportation capacity exceeding 44 million tons.
