China’s GSI Delivers First 8,600 CEU PCTC to HMM Ahead of Schedule

On September 9, China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd. (CSTC), named and delivered the first 8,600 CEU PCTC for South Korea’sHyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) significantly ahead of schedule. The vessel was christened “GLOVIS TITAN”.

“GLOVIS TITAN” measures 200 meters in length overall, 38 meters in beam, and has a design draft of 9.2 meters. With a design speed of 19 knots, it meets the International Maritime Organization’s Tier III emission standards and is green, environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, efficient, safe and reliable.

This PCTC is equipped with an advanced intelligent ship system that enables intelligent management of navigation, engine room, cargo and other systems, effectively improving ship operation efficiency and safety. Additionally, it also adopts a number of energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies, such as hull line optimization, propeller fairings, and main engine exhaust heat recovery systems, further reducing ship energy consumption and emissions.

Notably, Mr. Choi Won-hyuk, President of HMM, stated that the delivery and operation of the first 8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTC marks a significant milestone as HMM re-enters the car carrier business after a 23-year hiatus. HMM plans to deploy a total of seven PCTCs by next year, fully restarting its car carrier operations.

Upon delivery, the vessel will be operated by GLOVIS Logistics. HMM, the shipowner, is South Korea’s largest shipping company, while GLOVIS Logistics is the nation’s leading logistics and transportation enterprise. The joint order placed by these two industry giants with GSI fully demonstrates the yard’s unparalleled competitiveness and formidable delivery capabilities.

It is understood that leveraging its technological strengths, GSI has secured orders for nearly 40 PCTCs. To date, GSI has successfully built and delivered 17 7,000 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTCs and 3 8,600 CEU LNG dual-fuel PCTCs, totaling 144,800 vehicle spaces.
