On September 6, Wuhu Shipyard Weihai Base successfully delivered the 14,600 DWT multi-purpose heavy-lift vessel (Hull No. W2231) built for a German shipowner. This marked not only the departure of a single vessel, but also the launch of Wuhu Shipyard Weihai Base’s unwavering commitment to green shipping and efficient transportation.
It is understood that this series of heavy-lift vessels measures 149.9 meters in length, 27.2 meters in beam, and 13.5 meters in depth, with a design draft of 7.20 meters. The propulsion system employs an advanced dual-fuel drive system, supporting both conventional fuel and methanol fuel, meeting the latest environmental requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Additionally, the vessel possesses exceptional performance for polar ice navigation, ensuring safe and stable operation even in the most extreme and harsh environments.
This vessel also boasts two significant advantages. First, it adopts a dual-engine, single-propeller propulsion system and is equipped with two 800-ton heavy-lift cranes, each with a combined lifting capacity of 1,600 tons. This powerful lifting capacity perfectly matches the transport needs of oversized cargo, such as offshore wind turbine infrastructure and large petrochemical modules. This configuration significantly improves transport efficiency and loading flexibility, setting a world record for heavy-lift vessels of its class, and efficiently meeting the transportation needs of ultra-large cargo, including offshore wind turbine equipment and large engineering modules.
Secondly, the vessel features a wide size hatch opening cargo hold design with a total length of 107 meters and a width of 18.5 meters. Its exceptionally large cargo capacity accommodates the loading of super-sized equipment and various heavy structural components, providing ample physical space for diverse cargo transportation.
