HD Hyundai Samho Begins Substation Repairs After Fire-Induced Power Outage

HD Hyundai Samho, which suffered a power outage due to a substation fire, has begun repair work to restore normal operations at the shipyard.

HD Hyundai Samho announced on August 1 that, with the conclusion of the joint investigation by local police, fire departments, and the Korea National Forensic Service, and the lifting oof the on-site blockade, the shipyard has begun repair work on the accident substation.

According to the plan, HD Hyundai Samho will first install and activate temporary generators to ensure operating conditions, and will then completely replace the burned equipment. It plans to restore the power supply required for production after employees end their two-week collective summer vacation and return to work on August 11.

According to previous reports, at around 11:21 p.m. on July 28, a fire broke out at the HD Hyundai Samho Substation. It took the fire department nine hours to extinguish the blaze.

Fortunately, the shipyard was closed for holidays at that time of the incident, so there were no casualties, but some equipment in the underground passageway of the substation was damaged, causing a power outage throughout the shipyard. If the shipyard had been in operation at the time, the consequences could have been even more serious.

The police initially determined that the fire was caused by discharge due to aging electrical wires and are currently investigating the exact cause.
