COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Equipment (Nantong) Secures LNG Fuel Tank Order

Recently, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Equipment (Nantong) Co.,Ltd. successfully won an order for two sets of LNG fuel tanks from a well-known domestic shipyard, marking another breakthrough in its business expansion in the field of new energy equipment for ships and laying a solid foundation for deepening its involvement in the green ship equipment market.

In recent years, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Equipment (Nantong) has been focusing on the two “new tracks” of green and low-carbon and digital intelligence, keeping a close eye on the development trend of new energy technologies, keeping up with the new energy equipment and supporting needs of domestic and foreign shipyards, and continuously improving the R&D and manufacturing capabilities of new energy equipment.

In December 2023, the fuel tank of 5500HP ammonia-powered tugboat developed by the company was successfully completed and passed tests. In April 2024, it obtained the first domestic ammonia fuel tank factory approval certificate and marine product certificate issued by China Classification Society, marking the company’s successful entry into the new energy equipment manufacturing field.

The LNG fuel tanks undertaken this time have a capacity of 1,305 cubic meters and use 9Ni steel with the advantages of low temperature resistance and high strength as the main material. The products will be carried on the large-scale LNG dual-fuel car carrier for a European shipowner.

Next, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Equipment (Nantong) will continue to focus on its main business of equipment manufacturing and continue to expand its new energy business. Against the backdrop of the global shipping industry accelerating its decarbonization transformation, the company will actively respond to the group’s strategic deployment of green and low-carbon ship development, give full play to its manufacturing technology advantages, empower the group to build a world-class shipping company, and help the global shipping industry’s green transformation.
