On July 6, the world’s largest LNG transport and bunkering vessel, the “Hai Yang Shi You 301”, docked at the Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co., Ltd. (GWS) Wharf of Guangzhou Shipyard International for the third time, officially launching the second phase of the LNG bunkering function transformation and dry dock repair special inspection project.
It is reported that GWS has undertaken this repair and rebuilding and renovation task twice: in December 2018, it installed nitrogen generators and other equipment; in November 2022, GWS completed the bunkering function renovation of the vessel, making it the world’s largest and China’s first transport bunkering vessel, capable of providing ship-to-ship fuel bunkering services to large LNG-fueled vessels berthing at coastal ports in China.
The bunkering function transformation of the “Hai Yang Shi You 301” is a concrete measure to comply with the global energy transformation and the green and low-carbon development of the shipping industry. At present, the global energy structure is accelerating its transformation to a low-carbon one, and the shipping industry’s demand for clean energy such as LNG continues to rise. Through this transformation and upgrade, the vessel’s LNG transportation and bunkering capabilities will be further improved, helping to improve the domestic LNG industry chain. In addition, the domestically produced technologies used in the transformation will help enhance China’s technical strength and international competitiveness in related fields, and inject momentum into the green development of the shipping industry.
This time, the LNG bunkering function transformation (Phase II) project of the “Hai Yang Shi You 301” will be carried out, including the installation of domestic reliquefaction equipment, optimization and upgrading of GCU, hydraulic control system, adding a new mid-ship filling station, overall replacement of LNG liquid tank insulation, and carrying out special dry dock inspections and other transformation and repair work.
