To promote fleet renewal, Japan’s Shinomiya Tanker has commissioned three Japanese shipyards to build five 40,000 dwt handysize bulk carriers: two from Imabari Shipbuilding, two from Hakodate Dockyard and one from Naikai Zosen.
The order is valued at approximately $167 million, with each vessel costing approximately $33 million.
It is worth mentioning that the first of the five new vessels is scheduled to be delivered in 2025, which means that Shinomiya has placed the order a long time ago, but the relevant details have only been exposed recently. The remaining four vessels are scheduled to be delivered before June 2027.
Currently, Shinomiya Tanker is finalizing charter agreements for five newbuildings. The newbuildings to be delivered this year have already been agreed with Lauritzen Bulkers of Denmark for 5-8 years; the other four will be chartered by companies in Korea’s HMM, the UAE and the UK.
It is reported that Shinomiya Tanker was established in 1968. According to the fleet list on its official website, the company currently owns 10 vessels, including 4 bulk carriers. Its charter customers include Gearbulk, Centurion Bulk, Tomini Shipping, Union Maritime, Iino Gas Transport and MSC.
