Hudong-Zhonghua Delivers 13,600 TEU Container Ship “Orient Peru” to Seaspan

On October 8, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding successfully named and delivered the 13,600 TEU container ship “Orient Peru”, built for Seaspan, four and a half months ahead of the contractual schedule.

The 13,600 TEU container ship is a large, eco-friendly vessel independently developed by Hudong-Zhonghua. Measuring approximately 336 meters in length, 51 meters in breadth, and 30.2 meters in depth, the ship incorporates state-of-the-art design concepts.

Its performance complies with stringent international environmental regulations, ensuring low energy consumption, high speed, and eco-friendly operation while meeting the shipowner’s specific requirements. Marking a significant milestone in the deepening strategic partnership between the two parties, the “OOCL Peru” achieves world-class standards in environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and economic performance.

Since beginning their partnership in 2021, Hudong-Zhonghua and SEASPAN have signed contracts for a total of 17 vessels across three batches. The “Oriental Peru” is the third vessel in a series of six of the same type for which the two parties signed a contract in October 2024. It marks Hudong-Zhonghua’s first order from an overseas shipowner settled directly in renminbi, a development of far-reaching significance for promoting the internationalization of the renminbi and enhancing the shipping industry’s resilience to risks.
